Individual Health Insurance

Health Insurance is an insurance that is not often thought of until it is needed. People insure their cars, homes, boats, and motorcycles but will often leave their most important possession – themselves – uninsured.

Fortunately, there are many avenues to obtain health insurance. Most often it is made available through an employer and is called Group Health Coverage. This coverage will include Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs), Point of Service (POS) plans, and Preferred Provider Organizations (PPOs).

For those that are self-employed or unemployed, another option is to purchase individual coverage. This coverage will often have a medium to high deductible associated with it, which will apply to each family member covered.

Finally for those that are temporarily unemployed, college graduates, those waiting for group coverage to take effect at their place of employment, or children no longer classified as dependents on their parents’ plan, there is Short Term Medical Coverage. This coverage will provide coverage on a short term basis, which is usually less than 6 months. This coverage is usually very affordable and will often have fairly low deductible options available.
